Baby boom blankets

Seems like there's a bit of a baby boom with lovely BM and my friends at the moment! No fewer than 12 couples all expecting babies between now and February. And we thought the 12 months where we had 9 weddings was ridiculous - the next 6 months are going to be even more extreme! Of course i love any excuse to get making so ive already started on a number of blankets for the impending little ones, possibly some matching little baby shoes as well - everyone loves teeny tiny baby shoes! Updates (on the bubbas as well as the blankets!) to follow :)

Also ive got a lot of non blogging related stuff going on at the moment so im sorry for the sporadic posting. Ive got a free weekend coming up though so hopefully i'll get some making time soon

Postcarden

Have you seen these amazing Postcarden? Theyre so clever, its a little box postcard that opens up into a 3D 'garden'. It comes with absorbent paper and cress seeds so you can grow a proper little garden. I know youre supposed to post it to someone but i had to keep it for myself! I cant wait for my orangerie (thats what ive decided it is) to look like something out of a post apocalypse film - where plants have invaded all the buildings!

I'll post an update when the cress starts to take over...

Wordsearch wrapping paper

I made myself some wordsearch wrapping paper this week. Basically I setup an A3 word document, created a table that covered the whole page and then added a letter to each cell of the table. I repeated 'happy' and birthday' throughout the paper so they'd always be some to circle however i wrapped the present. Then i printed it on my A3 printer, wrapped the present, finally found the best happy and birthday and circled them in marker pen.
I love how it turned out, cant wait to give someone a gift wrapped in it. Definitely going to use it at Christmas as well.

Magnetic hair grip holder

Im forever losing my hair grips, they get everywher,e so I decided to do something about it. I had some sheet magnetic left over from these washi tape magnets so armed with that and some double sided sticky tape i tackled the issue!

Basically i just cut a strip of magnet out and fixed it to the inside of my wardrobe shelves (where i normally do my hair and makeup) with double sided tape. I attached the hair grips and problem fixed.
I love easy quick wins like this :)

Perler Birthday card

Yet another birthday card! I dont think i even know enough people to give out all the cards ive made recently! I already make this card but with knitted presents but i think they work well with the perler beads as well. I like perler beads when theyre not melted, i think i might try and find some other uses for them as well, any ideas welcome!. Now who to send this one to....

Button topped drawing pins

Being on a craft spending freeze does make me love the quick, easy and free makes! I've upgraded some plain old drawing pins by gluing some of my many many button to the top of them. Perfect for pinning crafting pictures to my noticeboards!

Wool/Yarn wrapped Washer Necklace

I loved these little yarn wrapped washers and i has some washers left after making this guy so i thought id have a go. My washers were tiny so i didnt bother trying multiple colours on one washer but i love the finished effect. Theyre also really soft and fluffy to the touch so i never stop touching them when im wearing them!

Embroidered card

On a bit of card making session at the moment! I love embroidery but im not very good at it so i figured even i couldnt mess up something where i selected and made the holes myself first! I drew the words very lightly in pencil and then used a sharp needle (must be sharp, i runied the first version by using a blunt needle and bending the card!) to poke holes about 1cm apart, or closer on a curve. I then back stitched from one hole to the next in this beautiful coral thread i had. I think it needs a bit more embellishment before i can give it to someone, maybe a border.. i'll have a think and get back to you!

FYI A normal stitch goes up through hole 1, back down hole 2, up through 3, down through 4. Backstitching goes up through 2, back down 1, up though 4, back down through 3 etc

Starry Night Card

I had loads of stars left from this hair clip and ive been wondering what to do with them. I finally decided to make a greeting card with them. A few clouds and a little wording and ive ended up with a pretty cool card :) - no idea what occasion i would send it for but i might just keep it for myself!

Perler Tree Fail!

I thought i might try melting perler beads in a cookie cutter, more just to see if it would work than for any specific purpose. Well it worked alright, those little beads melted and fused themselves (apparently permanently!) to my cookie cutter and the tin foil below it! No i didnt use any mould release or similar on the cutter, i see now that that may have been an error, but i figured the beads would only bond to themselves not the cutter! Oh well, you live and learn...

St Agnes and Chapel Porth

My friend's family lives in St Agnes, a gorgeous little village on the west cost of Cornwall, so this years holiday was St Agnes Carnival! (Think Rio but Cornish and on a minimal budget!!) Its such a lovely place and everyone was so friendly (not always the way in tourist towns and villages in my experience!). Carnival was amazing, lots of olympic and jubilee themed floats, snow machines, penguins, Nora Battys, beauty queens in car boots, men dressed as women and at least 3 brass bands! A-mazing!

After the excitement of Carnival on saturday we walked to Chapel Porth beach on the sunday. Its the most beautiful coastline around there, full of tin mine ruins and coves and beaches and bright purple heath land - totally gorgeous. Although walking isnt my favourite pastime (i grew up on a farm and walked a lot so i just dont see it as recreation anymore!) i'll walk for a view like this!

Dont you love holidays :)

Day 1 - tent up, sit in chair, realise i have a perfect little view of the sea between other tents - good times :)
I'm not a fan of camping, caravans yes, but tents no, but i got persuaded into this camping trip by my friends and (now im home and lying in my cosy bed!) im very pleased i went. The weather wasnt that good but the tent actually stayed dry inside - very unlike my childhood memories of camping! We stayed in such a beautiful area and had so much fun that lovely BM might even be able to convince me to do it again.... (emphasise on the might!)
No making done at all so it'll just be more holiday pics this week :)
