Doilie cupcake wrappers

I love cupcake wrappers but i can never justify the cost of them, not when they'll only get ripped off to get at the cakey goodness underneath! So i thought i'd have a try at making my own from doilies

I just cut off the outer edge of a doilie, wrapped it around the cupcake and secured it with a bit of tape.
Its certainly not my finest work but i think its an interesting start.
The way i cut the doilie left it vulnerable to ripping, i should have left some of the solid paper attached at the bottom, this would have reduced the chance of the lacey part ripping
The doilie being curved made it difficult to wrap it around the quite straight sided cupcake. Not sure how to fix this - less straight sided cupcakes, fold or pleat the doilie to accomodate the curve, wrap multiple doilies around then they wouldnt all have to be precise as long as together they looked good....
A few more attempts required i think!

Doilie envelopes

I love doilies and i found some hot pink ones that i had to use so i figured id make envelopes for some of my homemade cards
All you need is a doilie, the card you want an envelope for and some tape or glue to seal the envelope

Lay the card in the middle of the doilie, make sure its central or your envelope will be wonky!

Fold in the short sides first, then the bottom and then the top

Seal with a bit of tape and your done! Super easy

They look particularly cute from the front with the little lacey corners

I though white doilies would look good for wedding stationary :)

One Year Anniversary!

Its one year since my first ever blog post :)
I think i fulfilled my resolution to keep a record of the things i make and want to make, and i still think if anyone else likes what i post then thats just a bonus!
Having the blog has definitely inspired me to create more, make different things and has made me look at crafting and making as a potential business, but im a long way from that yet!
I plan to continue the same way in 2013, i still feel the blog is more for me to record what ive done rather than to share it with the world but maybe that outlook will change this year. But my main resolution is to take better photos, might even invest in a proper camera and stop using my iphone!!

My top 5 makes of 2012

5. Cami Bands - consistently most viewed pages!

4.  Doilie Wrapped Flowers - a beautiful simple idea

3. Leather and Tube Bead Bangles - i wear these all the time!

2. Needlepoint clutch - such a labour of love!

1. Basketweave blanket - i really love this blanket as does the cat!

Doily gift tags

I have loads of doilies (or is it doilys, i never know...) in my house but i never really use them! So when i saw on Pinterest that someone had used them on gift tags i knew i had to make myself some. These are so pretty and would be fab as the tag on a wedding present, cant wait to use them :)

Doilie wrapped flowers

I think i mentioned previously that i was my aunts birthdays recently (2 are within a week of each other) so i bought them some irises as a gift. I hate the plastic wrap that flowers normally come in so i wrapped them in brown paper, tucked in a doilie, and tied them with coloured twine. Im so pleased how they turned out, i think all my flowers will be wrapped like this in the future!
