Cake Tin Shelf

It always annoys me when i make biscuits or cupcakes with soft icing and i can only fit one layer in a tin - its such a waste of space! So i decided to add a shelf into one if my plastic tins. I screwed 4 screws, one on each side, in the sides, halfway between the top. Then rested a bit of cardboard covered in tinfoil on the screws. Now it has double the capacity - good times!

Personalised Skip Award

My sister and her boyfriend came for a visit last month and they spent most of their time (far more then they expected) clearing out my parents' garden. It took them days and days and they entirely filled a large skip with garden waste, it was epic! So as a thankyou i decided to make them a little award to commemorate all their hard work. I sprayed a plastic toy skip (they things you can find on ebay!) with gold paint and then mounted it on a left over billy dvd shelf which id painted dark brown. I then added a little plaque id had specially engraved with their names (ebay again!). Its currently in the post winging its way to australia so i hope they like it :)

Upcycled shelves into desk organiser

Lovely BM and I have quite a few Ikea DVD towers in our house and we've ended up with quite a glut of spare shelves. So i thought id try and make something out of them.

And this is what i came up with - a desk orgainser!

I just glued the shelves together with 'No More Nails'. First the bottom, sides and middle divider

Then the back

And finally added some cut down shelves as more dividers

As you can see from the first 2 pics and the left side of the pic above the front edges are just exposed wood pulp. I didnt like this so i got some laminate iron on strip samples from ebay, cut them to size and added them to the front edges.

It looks so much more finished that way.

So a pretty handy desk orgainser for lovely BM and all i spent was £1 on the the laminate edging strips. Dont you just love upcycling!

Floating shelves DIY

Been doing a bit of minor house renovation this week and i put up some great floating shelves. Theyre from Argos and were only £10 each. I think theyre great and finally my sock creatures get a place to live!

(FYI this is what this end of my house actually looks like, in case youre wondering why its such a close up of the shelves - not exactly photo worthy!)
